An open lecture on the Twin Transition featured a presentation by Prof. Veiko Lember (TalTech) titled “The Three Faces of Twin Transition: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.” The event took place on May 13 and included a commentary by Prof. Monamie Bhadra Haines (Virginia Tech) and further discussion involving BoostEuroTeQ Project team members and all attendees.

The event began with an opening speech by TalTech’s Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship, Erik Puura.

Ensuring that human actions remain within planetary boundaries has emerged as the paramount societal challenge of our time. Simultaneously, we find ourselves amidst the information and communication technologies (ICT) paradigm, where the organization and coordination of social and technological activities increasingly rely on digital technologies. A widespread assumption is now emerging: the green and digital transitions can mutually reinforce each other. However, the interplay between digitalization and sustainability is multifaceted and multidirectional. The talk aimed to unpack why and how the different ‘faces’ of the twin transition matter for transition governance.
