A new chapter in European cooperation: Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), both partners in the EuroTeQ Engineering University, have signed their accession to the EuroTech Universities Alliance. The signing took place on 29 October 2026 in Brussels during the EuroTech October Events, which celebrated 15 years of the alliance.

Effective from 1 January 2027, the accession marks an important milestone in the long-standing cooperation between the two universities and their European partners. It also strengthens the links between two complementary initiatives with a shared ambition: advancing European higher education, research and innovation.

From EuroTech to EuroTeQ: a shared vision for the future

The roots of the EuroTech Universities Alliance date back to 2006, when the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) established a strategic partnership. The alliance was formally founded in 2011 and has since brought leading universities of science and technology together to address major technological and societal challenges through collaboration in research, education and innovation.

Building on this foundation, EuroTeQ Engineering University was launched in 2020 as a European Universities initiative, co-funded by the European Union. Its focus is on transforming engineering education, creating new learning opportunities and connecting students, educators, researchers and industry across national borders.

While EuroTech provides a broader strategic framework for cooperation, EuroTeQ puts this shared vision into practice through joint courses, challenge-based learning, innovative teaching methods and lifelong learning opportunities. The initiatives have overlapping but distinct partnerships, bringing together complementary expertise and perspectives.

What does this mean for the EuroTeQ community?

The accession of CTU and TalTech to EuroTech strengthens the institutional ties between two universities that already collaborate. For the EuroTeQ community, this development reinforces the value of long-term cooperation between universities. Stronger institutional connections can help create new opportunities for students and academic staff, encourage knowledge exchange and support collaboration that extends beyond individual courses and projects.

The move also reflects EuroTeQ’s broader ambition to help shape the engineering university of the future: one that connects disciplines, responds to societal needs and prepares learners to contribute to Europe’s technological progress.

Looking ahead

The signing took place during the EuroTech October Events in Brussels, bringing together university leaders, researchers, policymakers and industry representatives to discuss Europe’s technological future and celebrate the alliance’s 15th anniversary.

For EuroTeQ, it is another step towards a more connected European higher education landscape. Where universities work together to create learning opportunities and develop the talent and knowledge needed to engineer Europe’s future.
