16 June 2025: Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) recently hosted EuroTeQathon 2025, the flagship event from EuroTeQ. The event brought together 24 brilliant student teams from top European universities, showcasing innovative problem-solving and groundbreaking solutions.
From intense brainstorming to insightful mentorship, participants dove deep into challenges, showcasing their interdisciplinary expertise. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, leading to presentations that truly pushed the boundaries of innovation.
Meet the Winning Teams
Three teams emerged victorious from their respective groups:
- GoodMetal (EPFL): Gaia Petrillo, Navadheer Yalamanchili, Tao Zhang
- BioThermoBox (TUM): Ziwei Wang, Jakob Hirschfeld, Qiuyi Dong
- Beetle Juice (TU/e): Izabela Kallfa, Shree Patil, Maxime Parchkov, Güzin Özkan
The Public Prize went to BlueRack (DTU), comprising Anne Thorhauge Zepernick, Caroline Rose, Katrine Elmerdahl Thomassen, Marie Bjerre Orht, and Sten Møller Hansen.
Solutions for a Sustainable Future
An overview of the innovative solutions presented by these teams:
- GoodMetal developed a real-time tracking system for critical minerals, using satellite imagery, IoT sensors, and blockchain to ensure responsible sourcing in low-carbon energy systems.
- BioThermoBox designed a sustainable, temperature-controlled packaging solution for Ugandan banana farmers, made from banana fiber waste, to reduce spoilage and empower local economies.
- Beetle Juice project proposes an innovative, energy-free water harvesting system that uses smart materials to provide consistent water access, to address the complex challenge of water scarcity for Kenyan smallholder farmers.
- BlueRack created a circular solution for ocean plastic pollution, transforming discarded fishing nets into reusable beverage can holders, aiming to reduce single-use plastic waste.

EuroTeQathon 2025 was more than just a challenge; it was a celebration of camaraderie and cross-cultural connection. Students from diverse backgrounds bonded over shared goals, challenges, and the thrill of co-creation.
